What to Wear in Dubai & Stay Comfortable
We went to the Middle East for the first time in 2017. I thought I navigated my packing situation pretty well – until I got there. Dubai is incredible and incredibly hot.
As a woman, it’s pretty tough to find cute and comfortable clothing that:
- Isn’t sheer
- Covers your shoulders, chest, back, and knees
- Doesn’t make you sweat to death
- Makes you feel good
- Is something you’d want to wear when you get home
I would love to go back to Dubai ASAP & would pack totally different the second time around. Jewel and earth-toned dresses will look gorgeous against the sand dunes and architecture, so I’ll leave recommendations on what to wear in Dubai below. Fabric is key here!
Lightweight Maxi Dresses
These were my saving grace when the temperatures hit over 80 degrees. You do have to be a little careful though on the fit here. Most of the western-style maxi dresses are figure-hugging and while that might not be considered indecent in the states, it can cause stares and unwanted comments in the Middle East. I’ve added a list of dresses that cover what’s important and don’t show curves too much while looking cute. Free People is an excellent retailer if you prefer to shop in person for dresses like this!
Comfortable Walking Shoes
Dubai is definitely a walking city! We were able to explore everything we wanted by walking and taking the local metro so make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. Check out this post for a full break down on the Best Walking Shoes for Traveling.
