Sneaky Ways to Get More Omega-3s in Your Diet

Sneaky Ways to Get More Omega-3s in Your Diet

I grew up eating Italian and Mediterranean food, however, Mexican dishes are always my absolute favorite thing to eat. If you’re from California you might agree with me since we have SO many incredible Mexican restaurants here. I’ll never move to another state and risk having sub-par Mexican food. Half joking, but not really!

Since we’re all starting to coming out of quarantine so many of you have mentioned on my Instagram you’re on a health kick & getting back on a fitness routine. I’m right there with you! I visited a Naturopathic Doctor for the first time and had my blood tested for everything under the sun & found I’m super low on Vitamin D and Omega 3s. I started taking a supplement but it’s still not enough to put me in the “normal” range, so I’m making adjustments with my diet!

I’m sure you can guess I’m doing this with my favorite Mexican foods.

Here are ways to add omega 3s into your meals:

Seafood

Adding in seafood proteins like lobster, shrimp and salmon are great sources of two of the three important omega-3s: EPA and DHA)! EPA and DHA have huge health benefits for your lungs, heart, brain, and even improve circulation. Higher doses of Omega 3’s slow plaque buildup in your arteries + lower certain types of fat in the bloodstream.

Some of my favorite ways to include these protein sources are with takeout from Rubio’s – voted the Number 1 Fish Taco in California & for good reason. They’ve started a 45-day Seafood Challenge to encourage people to get more Omega 3’s in their diet.

There are super delicious new dishes at Rubio’s you’ll want to try:

Smoky Oaxacan Shrimp Two Taco Plate

Pictured above! My personal favorite. The dish has grilled shrimp marinated in our smoky Oaxacan sauce made with ancho, anaheim, chipotle, and guajillo chiles. This plate has tons of Omega-3’s and vitamin D.

Smoky Oaxacan Shrimp Bowl

Smoky Oaxacan marinated shrimp, romaine, citrus rice, black beans, guacamole, cotija cheese, salsa fresca, and tortilla strips topped with a signature smoky Oaxacan sauce. Ask for extra Oaxacan sauce & guacamole with this one! It’s so good and can easily be turned into a low-carb option by omitted the rice & chips.
