5 Step Easy Morning Skincare Routine

One of my new year’s resolutions is to get serious with an easy morning skincare routine. When I do my skincare first thing in the morning it feels like I’ve set my whole day up for success. It’s also an easy way to start your day off fresh and take care of your largest organ  – your skin!!

Step 1: Cleanse

The first and most important part of a skincare regimen is prepping the skin to absorb all the lovely ingredients in your toners  & serums. I  love using a gentle cleanser first thing in the morning to help me feel awake! If you have acne-prone skin like me, this cleanser is the perfect mix of gentle + effective. Salicylic acid helps prevent and treat active breakouts and the alcohol-free formula is so gentle on the skin!

Another reason I recommend this cleanser is because if I have a girl’s night out the night prior and forget to take off my makeup, this will get it off!

If you’re looking to remove waterproof mascara though – I recommend a face oil.

Step 2: Tone

My favorite skincare product EVER is toner. The right toner will fade dark spots, even skin tone, reduce oil production, and provide a gentle chemical exfoliation. I personally use this one, because of the main ingredient – glycolic acid, which exfoliates while fighting fine lines. Now that I’m in my early thirties, I have the unique situation of needing to treat acne and wrinkles, so a product like this is key!

Apply your toner with a cotton pad to remove any residual dirt and oil lingering in your pores.

Step 3: Correct

This is the perfect time in a skincare routine to address any problem areas. Has a breakout popped up since last night? Using a spot treatment will help so much! I like using this for stubborn acne.

I usually use this time to work on correcting melasma under my eyes. This discoloration treatment with Niacinimide helps my under eyes circles fade & overall look brighter. If you don’t need an eye cream or acne spot treatment, feel free to skip this step!

Step 4: Serum

Even if your skin is prone to breakouts, using a serum is KEY! Look for ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid (which pulls hydration from your environment, or skincare, into the skin). The Water Drench Hyaluronic Glow Serum helps provide 120 hours of enhanced hydration. + plumps the skin for a dewy glow. See my before and after pictures below just from using this one product!

I find that using this serum makes my skin look natural and healthy. This type of moisturizing serum is an excellent anti-aging item to have on your vanity. If you only get one thing from this blog post, this is the item you should get!

Step 5: Moisturize

After applying hyaluronic acid, you are ready to use moisturizer knowing your skin will absorb more of the product.

It’s January as I’m writing this, and the weather is cold (even in San Diego), so I’m gravitating toward thicker moisturizer formulas.

My skin currently needs the extra boost, so I’m loving the Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream Hydrating Moisturizer. I take it down my neck and on the top of my hands too (places that tend to age the fastest). I feel my most confident when I use this!

Step 6: Protect!

I had to learn the hard way that not all sunblock is created equal! My melasma gets SO bad when my skin is exposed to bare sunlight, so I have to have the best sunblock possible on my under eyes.

Sun protection is essential for everyone though, regardless of your skin’s health. Using the right sunscreen regularly will block UV rays, prevent free radicals from damaging the skin, prevent early signs of aging + fine lines. Let’s just all say no to sun damage!

The best sunscreens are MINERAL sunscreens! You’re going to want to look for ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. All of these are worthy of your skin.

I personally love to apply sunscreen multiple times a day to prevent any melasma from happening, SO why not use a product with a tinted cream. This one has a lightweight sheer color coverage & I LOVE it. Makes it look like I applied makeup 🙂
