Anyone else a skincare junkie? I feel like we tend to take such good care of our skin, get the latest and greatest for the perfect glow, but completely look over lips.
I’m not a fan of putting on lipstick and it looking rough or cracked (I did Accutane in college, so this happens every Summer) – so I did some digging and came up with a routine that keeps lips supple; especially in this Summer heat.
5 Ways to Keep Your Lips Supple This Summer:
Table of Contents
Tip 1: Use a hydrating lip balm with clean ingredients
It’s so important to look for ingredients like Vitamin E and petroleum jelly to lock in moisture. The skin on your lips is much more fragile than the skin on your face, so rich products are key here.

I love spending the afternoon at the Marine Street Beach in San Diego, and have learned the hard way that my lips hate being in the sun – even for a little bit! The Vaseline Rosey Lips is perfect for treating and preventing dry & cracked lips. It also doubles as a lip tint and has a gorgeous pink sheen.
If you’re not looking for a tinted option, the Aloe Vera Lip Therapy is incredible too! I use this one when I’m staying inside or am heading to bed. It smells so good!

Love that these therapies are under $10 too!
Tip 2: Drink water throughout the day
Simple, but if you forget to intake the amount of water you need, it will show on your skin!
The general rule of thumb is to drink half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, daily.
Adding in a little citrus – like lemon or orange to your water boosts vitamin C levels and helps keep skin & lips glowy.

Tip 3: Take a vitamin E supplement
This one made such a huge difference for me! It takes a couple of weeks to see results, but it’s SO worth it! Vitamin E is known to help reduce UV damage and is your best friend in the Summer months, while you’re skin is likely being exposed to more UV light than usual.
It’s antioxidant properties also help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and slows the skin’s aging process. It’s affordable, easy, and effective! Yes, please.
Tip 4: Wear a wide brim hat
A wide brim hat will help protect your neck, face, and ears from the sun’s rays & reflective rays from sand and water.
They’re also a great accessory! Here are the ones I swear by. I’ve had both of these for 2 years and they’re super durable!
Tip 5: Take your makeup off before bed
I’m so guilty of forgetting to do this at least twice a month. Nothing feels worse than waking up with mascara all over your face and just feeling gross.
Here’s what happens to your lips when you forget to take off your makeup before bed:
- early development of wrinkles and dry skin (no thanks)
- breakouts – you know those ones on the top of the lip that huuurt?
- interference with product absorption
Always helps to play it safe and take that extra minute to remove all makeup. I love using an oil cleanser because it doesn’t pull on the skin. However, if you’re exhausted, traveling or in a pinch, a makeup removing wipe is better than nothing!
